“Friends” – the Best Sitcom Ever

Not a very happy post at all. I’ve just finished watching the Friends TV series – the best sitcom ever. The TV series had been around for ten years when it telecasted its final episode in 2004. It was telecasted in Sri Lanka by a certain channel but I never got to watch all of it. So I’ve downloaded the complete 10 seasons, watched them all during the past few months and now I’m emotionally disturbed that it had to end.

Without doubt, it is the best TV series I’d ever watched and I would hardly say that any other sitcom would ever take its place. The amazing combination of friendship, love, romance and laughter that was weaved around the six characters is just too much to say goodbye to. All the group hugging, all the I’ll-be-there-for-you stuff and all the merry moments of a group of friends through a time span of ten years just makes everyone see how beautiful this life is. The intricate work of its writers and actors to bring about some of best scenes in sitcom television ever, puts Friends in an unparallel position in its category. I’m just running out of words to describe how enjoying the experience has been for me.

Anyone who has missed it, I’d say you miss a lot. Just download it and watch. It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you cry but above all – it’ll make you see what friendship really is.

Hi...me again...I commented just now under your post about those pictures.

Now from the sublime to the ridiculous or the ridiculous to the sublime...depending on your perspective...unwittingly got hooked by friends too. It was really awful at the start, but then suddenly I started looking forward to watching it.

See if you can get your hands on a series called "coupling". Different from friends but similar group of people based in Britain and very, very funny. Probably a bit more cynical...so you may not like it I don't know. I laughed till my stomach hurt.

In my opinion the reason why friends was such a big hit not only commercially but also in each individual who watches it was bcoz of the way they brought out each character... each characters had their own flaws which each oen of us can relate to in one way or the other i remeber watchign ti and syaing hey im like ross iam not that fo a sports guy....im like phoebe who has a weirdness in her and proud of it! and above all they were different individuals among them but they bonded well and they never changed who they were for other people...that was a major plus in this show which i think worked big time...and the timing of the comedy was always great! friends will be missed...but should never be remade! its just a milestone in television history!

anon:

thanx for the link mate. coupling ha? i'll definitely check that out.

about the other post, i'm wondering how would it turn out if i opened a live discussion on the issues discussed there. i recently added google talk to my blog hoping that it might help in situations exactly like this one to become more interactive thus more productive. i still don't have even a vague idea as to how i'm going to initiate one. but i hope it would be nice. any ideas? (btw, if you can use a name other than been anonymous, it would be great. any name would do. i'm going crazy with the large number of anonymous commenters among whom i have to distinguish which one is which)

if i were able to keep my eyes open for a little longer i would have commented there. but nope. may be tomorrow. TC.

thanx machang

yes, it will be missed. and having finished watching it very recently, i'm having a hard time forgetting the memory clips of it i have in my mind. it'll be missed big time.

i agree, it should never be remade. there should never be "Friends2" or "Friends reunited". the sweet memory of Friends should be left at that. TC

After single people finish watching "Friends", they should get married and watch "Everybody Love Raymond".

Ok am former anon. Gave myself a label. Didn't expect to comment more than once.

I agree. 'Everybody loves Raymond' is definitely worth watching. Sri Lankans in particular could relate living next-door to your parents or your in-laws. It also has some sentimental moments like Friends. 'Coupling' is not as warm and sentimental but still very funny.

Re: LiveTalk-some informative comments from people like MeanUSA are worth having up so people who can't participate in real time can view them.

Maybe you can restrict the high traffic ones...eg. the ethnic situation to once a month. Or maybe you can have your own talk show :-)

Anyway Im sure someone out there will better ideas on how this could work.

Good luck.
